While gloves are probably the most common form of hand protection, there's something to be said for mitts.
1) Many are reversible, essentially doubling the life.
2) Without the physical limitations of having individual fingers, additional wool can be added, providing additional insulation.
3) Since mitts require less time and effort to sew, they are often less expensive than gloves.
Of course, with a mitt, you do give up the additional dexterity available with a glove. But, if you are using a cover mitt (as you should), a lot of that additional dexterity is already lost.
